Cable companies send Internet through the existing copper coaxial cables used to deliver TV to your home. But, cable Internet speeds are slowed down by the number of people in your area using the same Internet.
Cable Internet runs on a shared network, and in some areas, cable customers share their Internet with up to 500 neighbors. This can cause your Internet connection to slow down, especially during peak Internet traffic times.

Cable companies will set up your home services. You will also need a router and a modem to connect your devices to the usable Internet. Be sure to find a router and modem combination that will convert the Internet correctly and be able to transmit your Internet signal to your devices.
